Story guidelines

Before you write, a few principles to keep this archive honest and dignified:

Tell the truth. Real lives, told plainly, are the strongest stories.
Honor the person. This is a memorial, not a comment thread or a controversy.
Stay specific. A small detail — a song, a meal, a saying — often carries more than a long biography.
Respect the family. If you are not next of kin, please be confident the family would welcome the story being public.
One name per submission. Each story honors one person.
Length. 200–1,500 words is the sweet spot. Longer is fine if the life calls for it.

Every submission is reviewed by a human. We may write you back with a small note before publishing — please make sure your email is correct.

Fill in the name of the person you’re honoring, their years, and write their story below; you may add one portrait photo. Once submitted, your memorial goes to our editorial team and, after review, is published to the public archive and anchored on IPFS.

The story

Twelve gentle questions to remember them by — answer what you know, skip what you don’t. Or write in your own way. Specific beats general; a single saying often outweighs a paragraph of biography.

Answer what you know. Skip what you don’t. Each is optional, and a few sentences each is enough. We’ll weave the answers into a coherent memorial; editorial review polishes the result before publication.

1. Where were they born, and what was the place like?

2. What did their voice sound like? What word did they say most often?

3. What did they smell like — their kitchen, their clothes, their hands?

4. What did they cook, or always have on hand?

5. What did they say when something went wrong?

6. What did they do when they were proud?

7. What did they fear?

8. Who were they before you knew them?

9. What did they teach you without saying it?

10. What did the last year of their life look like?

11. What is one moment you wish you could ask them about?

12. What do you want their great-grandchildren to know?

Each is optional. The more you answer, the richer the memorial. Editorial weaves the answers and may write to you for clarification before publishing.

All memorials are actively preserved on IPFS regardless of choice. Public is the standard register for honoring an ancestor in the open record. Private keeps the memorial as a record only you hold. A consent-gated Family option — shared only with kin who accept, never a public link — is coming soon.
